A Studio Stay-and-Play session is aimed at  photographers of all levels, allowing you to participate in your very own studio shoot, taking portraits of their family, mates and better halves, while learning the fundamentals of studio portraiture and portrait photography under the guidance of Seng Mah.

A Stay-and-Play session can be up to 2 hours long. The first hour includes instruction, notes and a guided photo shoot, while you get the opportunity to photograph your sitters or models in the second hour. You keep all the photos as keepsakes for your family or friends!

A Studio Stay-and-Play session costs $135. If you would like to photograph a model, then one can be organised for you – for an additional $60 to cover the model’s fee.

In this exclusive art nude photography workshop, Brett will openly share a number of his most valuable and intimate approaches to photographing and working with nude figures in and out of the studio. Fuelled by good humour and not a little Dutch courage, each guest took turns as photographer and model under a single light setup (an octabox). The creative juices were certainly flowing (or fermenting at the very least) as everyone delved into the prop box for various bits of this and that to enhance their shoot. It didn’t take long for photographers to request that a bit of skin showed (Brett is a fine art nude photographer of some repute); thankfully, everyone managed to keep their pants on.

Here are the results of the night’s endeavours. Startling and thought-provoking portraits of the reprobates who visited the studio that night.

Working with fine art model Jen Diamond, Brett first demonstrated his approach to a fine art nude studio shoot before opening the floor to participants who flexed their creative muscles in posing and photographing the stellar Ms Diamond.

Judging by comments from participants after the workshop, both sessions went down a treat. A handful of participants have even gone on to organise their own shoots with Jen!

Sydney photographer Nadia Janis’s Michael and Helen is a documentary series focusing on two individuals living on the margins of our society.

Michael is 59 years old and suffers from schizophrenia. He lives on the streets, is a well-known character and integral part of the community in Balmain, Sydney.  Helen is his friend and occasional “partner”. She lives in housing commission in Balmain and no longer has any living relatives. Michael and Helen is part of an ongoing project documenting the every day lives of those with lives less fortunate than ours. It seeks to personalise their experience by bringing their lives to our attention and to remove the “distance” and barriers we create between “us” and the “homeless”.

Up On High photographer, Tony Gajewski’s exhibition, Kroma Soma explores the combination of colours and bodies in photography (“Kroma”, from the Greek for “colour” and “Soma”, from the Greek for “body”). Images in this exhibition range from models photographed with complex studio strobe lights to the photography of found objects with fluorescent tubes and desk lamps.

The exhibitions brought a range of visitors to the studio, including Freo mayor Brad Pettitt, and FotoFreo exhibitors, Narelle Autio (who exhibited at the Maritime Museum) and Brad Rimmer (who exhibited at the Fremantle Prison).
